What is the treatment with plasma TVs?

Ive been wanting to buy a new TV since last summer, IV to date have saved at least $ 1,200. What I want is 47 "Class LCD 1080p Samsung. Its a reasonable $ 897 (of course with the HMI and support thread) im assuming the entire $ 1,200 will be gone …. anyway, my friend told me to get a plasma tv instead. That are cheaper and give me as much as the newest image. They said for some time, like 8 mths that plasmas are no longer going to do and start breaking. that the "new" thing was a LCD HDTV comes out. my question is, if I give you I want and not worry at least another 2 years or go ahead and get the cheapest (plasma) and worry about getting stopped in the next year or so, and not be able to obtain a guarantee of full-time? any suggestions would be great!

Plasma is not going anywhere and it is still LCD. Both technologies still have enough years left in them. OLED and Laser TV's are on the road. But consumers are also not viable yet. So first have consumers to become viable. Then they have to be popular (so prices can be reduced). That's a lot more than 5 years away (more likely, at least 10). Pioneer is famous for its superior line of plasmas. About a year ago, announced they were leaving the company. So maybe that's what Your friend is confused with. Panasonic has incorporated the reign as the leading developer of plasma and has no intention of giving up technology in the short term. The plasma has a near instantaneous response time (0.001ms), which offers the perfect playback. Plasma provides vivid colors, true blacks, and contrast. All this is inherent technology, so it does not add features to pay. LCD (including LCD LED) has problems of motion reproduction. That's why we can have options 120Hz/240Hz rate, to try to hide the problem. While helpful, they are not perfect. And is expected to pay a premium for them. Also, some LCD monitors in sizes larger, may have muted colors, black, gray and average contrast. This is overcome with LED display. The LED light source helps provide vivid colors, true blacks, deeper and the contrast. This also helps create thin panels and low power consumption. But this is a very premium property and are back to pay much for it. So try to match the LCD Plasma finish that cost more than plasma. Get a Panasonic Viera plasma and is going to get the top quality online image and reliability. At this point there really is no match for them in the market for HDTV. There are other very good options, but nothing that really rivals or better than The Panasonic Viera Plasma. Panasonic TC-P46U1 46 "1080p Plasma – $ 1044 Panasonic TC-ABC Warehouse P46S1 46" 1080p Plasma – $ 974 Amazon If these two are more expensive than the Samsung to the list, but both are set higher. I guess the Samsung is a list of LN46B530 model. That means no 120Hz refresh rate. That means potential ghost road / Motion blur with fast motion problems. So its cheaper than plasma, since its a step back in features. LCD is more expensive than plasma only when it really tries to match the quality of plasma. Find a LN46B630 Samsung or 650 model and then start comparing prices (and Panasonic plasmas still beating the quality, only those who are a little closer). Oh, and just an FYI. This Black Friday, Best Buy is selling a Panasonic Viera 1080p plasma Panasonic BluRay player $ 1,000 (for items). I do not know how easy it would find a place $ 200 on that, but could end up with a combination of bad there if you think you can as the budget.
